Coroner’s Verdict

ASBESTOS WAS KILLER

08:00 - 24 April 2008

A Former joiner died at the age of just 53 from cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, an inquest heard.

Coroner Dr Robert Hunter said Peter Wood was the youngest person to die from mesothelioma on whom he had held an inquest.

Recording a verdict that Mr Wood died from an industrial disease, he said: “There’s quite clear evidence that in various jobs he was exposed to asbestos.”

Mr Wood, of <*******> was diagnosed with cancer in March 2006 and died on April 16 (No he didn’t, he died on Sunday, 6th April at 4.20 pm to be precise…I was there, and thanks for telling everyone where I live…) this year.

Mr Wood worked for Derbyshire County Council as a joiner from 1969 to 1982. While there he made asbestos-lined cupboards for school science labs.

He also renovated buildings that had asbestos in them.

I personally was so angry that this was printed in The Derby Evening Telegraph, I don’t know why - but I was so angry!

I understand your anger but it is good that this was publicized. The more people are aware of this deadly disease, the better, for research, for cures, for future victims. I so feel for you!

I have just re-visited this post, and I think the reason why I was angry it was published in the local rag was the fact that I have issues with them printing details of where I lived! They did not have to print the EXACT street/village. They could have just put the town! Not only that, it was plastered on the Internet. They should have ASKED me first, but the court reporter did not even acknowledge that I there, yet she was taking down details about my life! No, it was not good that it was published, not good at all. I was raw from grief, traumatised, full of anxiety, needed a friend, and felt totally paranoid. Then details of where I lived were published in the newspaper and Internet…this was a horrible experience and it still fills me full of anger that yet again, I HAD NO CHOICE over something that I should have had a choice over, it is a basic human right to have privacy and to be in control of how much information is given out about yourself. I had this right taken away from me.
