Aftermath

Thursday 24th April, 2008

This is the aftermath, the period of healing, and yet things are still sent to remind me of what my poor Peter has been through. The Derby Evening Telegraph, the local news rag, printed details of the Coroner’s Inquest today. I don’t know why it bothered me, I just think I am still being protective of Peter, his advocate, and that we had no choice in the matter of what details were printed about him. When someone is ill and in the ’system’ of the health care professionals, although you have rights and choices, it does not always seem that way. And so, I feel that his rights and choices have not been taken care of, even in death. If he had the choice, he would not have wanted to be in the newspaper, not for selfish reasons, just that he was a private person. It was the fact that they printed where he lived that hurt. That was not fair. They even got the date of his death wrong! What is the saying? Today’s news, tomorrow’s chip wrappings!

And so to the aftermath…would everyone please take note that my poor husband of 23 years is dead, and let him rest in peace, and let me, his widow, and his two children heal themselves. Thank you.
